My Favorite Bookroom Indeed

One of my other nephews will be heading into high school next year.  What the heck! I remember when he was just a chubby little baby. Time flies, time flies. Now like his aunty, he loves reading so I pulled this together for him. A bit of masked stencilling in the background, layered images for depth, and even some visual texture on his clothing using a scrap piece of denim and Copic blending solution. I really like the rectangle window die--a simple way to draw attention to the sentiment.

Stamplorations CAS #17 Mid-Challenge Reminder

A little reminder for our current challenge at Stamplorations CAS using the optional color twist of feminine colors. Do join in!

For my card I took Stamplorations Floral Bliss and stamped it over the top portion of the card in pale pink.  I also stamped it on watercolor cardstock and used Distress Oxides and Zigs to color them. I like the effect of this bunch of blossoms coming out of the card. For the sentiment, I used Cutplorations Sweet Spring Wishes, cutting it twice--once from leftover dogwood blossom pink and once in black for a shadow.

Use the code STAMPGIRLTONI to get 20% off all regular- and sale-priced stamps, stencils and dies! This code cannot be combined with any other discount codes. Happy crafting!

Happy Belated Birthday, Kerry!

A birthday card for a crafty friend of mine. Kerry loves the randomness of smooshed watercolor backgrounds so I thought I would incorporate that technique into my card for her.
  • A combo of Distress Ink and Oxide used, with drying between layers to avoid muddying, then a spatter of plain water
  • The trunk is also smooshed with some more-or-less careful masking
  • The tree background is cut from non-watercolor cardstock so the trunk has a pebbled texture due to the application of water during smooshing
  • The leaves are smooshed too
  • The fairies are colored with Copics (RV0000-RV00 for wings, RV21-29 for outfits)
  • Wink of Stella on like everything tho invisible in the picture--leaves, wings
  • The tree coverplate is inset
I based my colors on the current THD Challenge 12.  I hope you plan to join in the fun!

Cards in Envy Fav Color Combo

Time for another fab challenge at Cards in Envy! We're asking you to use your favorite 2-3 colors. I hope you have a moment to join in the fun!

You will often find shades of yellow, magenta pink and blue-green in my cards. I used the colors in combination this time to create even more shades, like the two-tone tulips. So pretty! I like to create a background for my colored pieces too, sometimes an outline, almost always blue. I went with a plaid stencil that looks like wallpaper in this context.

Bun in the Oven

We have a couple of babies on the way at the office, or should I say buns in the oven?  LOL.

I used two LF holidays sets for my card. Love stretching my supplies!  I drew the floor but wouldn't it be nice if someone made a checkered floor stamp with perspective? (I'm looking at you, Lawn Fawn and MFT.) The wall is a brick stencil.  Looking at it now I wonder if I shouldn't have gone lighter with it right above the stove and darker on the edges to give the illusion of the hood having a light. Speaking of hood, I made this one using a LF flower box die turned upside down and a simple rectangle. The bun is also a transformation from a donut. I added in the swirls and trimmed it down a bit for added height. And now I want a cinnamon bun--hope you're happy.

I'm entering this in Lawn Fawnatics #4 Black/White and Bright, Addicted to Stamps and More Anything Goes

Sweet Treat Thank You Cards

A cute thank you card to go with the giant cupcakes I bought for the folks who helped submit grant proposals this round. It's been a crazy few weeks and the sweet treats well deserved!

I sponged a quick plaid background then diecut this base layer using a GM rectangle scallop die to coordinate with the PPP scallop square. The LF Tiny Tag Sayings come with their own dies but fit perfectly in the PPP squares too. I colored up a few of the CB Sweet Treats hamsters--my god, so flippin' cute. Almost put them on the PPP square but couldn't resist using the sentiment instead.

I'm entering this in Paper Players #343 Sweet Treats

Party Animal

My favorite part of this birthday card is the layout with the jungle to the side and the sentiment and parrot peeking out--very interesting balance.

Distress Inks to color up the greenery, washi tape for the base grass (two layers for lush thickness), jungle leaves stencil in the background for a touch more depth. Notice the mirror board for the binoculars? My intention was that the recipient could see themselves reflected (you party animal, get it?) but they're too small. I'll keep that idea in mind for the future tho.

I'm entering this in Cardz 4 Guyz #169 Jungle Fun, Happy Little Stampers May Anything Goes with Dies, SIP #98 Kid's Birthday, Mod Squad Let's Color

The Details:  Gerda Steiner Go Wild!, Lawn Fawn Critters in the Arctic (Smile sentiment), Avery Elle More Party Animals (Birthday sentiment), Waffle Flower Greenery dies, MFT Jungle Friends dies (grass), Echo Park Beach Palms stencil, Doodlebugs Green Grass washi, Recollections silver mirror board, Versafine Onyx Black, Distress Ink Mowed Lawn, Twisted Citron, Peeled Paint, Simon Says Stitched Rectangle die, PTI kraft cardstock, Copics

Stand Tall

This card came together so quickly which is unusual for my brain-to-paper process.

I stamped the foliage using just Distress Ink and Distress Oxide Cracked Pistachio; the darker color is the Oxide. I love the effect of stamping off without having to stamp off! For the flamingo I started with the darkest shade then worked my way to the lightest which helped me position the layered stamps--the MISTI was perfect for this. A strip of gold foil washi to emphasize the vertical and a few gold dots finish up the card.

Do join in for The Heart Desires Challenge 12. Dude, I am loving the board!
